TO THE BATTLEFIELDS

TRAVELLING TO THE BATTLEFIELDS

I've always liked to travel around Europe. Especially to the battlefields that scarred the countryside in the two world wars.

In 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2004 I travelled by car to some of the most infamous battlegrounds in Europe.
2000 was the year when I walked down Omaha beach for the first time in my life. And the same year I saw the huge cemeteries and the battle scars still visible at Somme.

It was also the time for a visit at Arnhem, Nijmegen and Eindhoven to follow the route of Operation Market Garden. And last, but certainly not least, the Ardennes region with Bastogne were 101st Airborne fought so hard years ago.

The following years I visited several other sites in France, Belgium, Holland, Germany and Luxembourg.

The size of the Maginot-line impressed me with it's enormous tunnel-system under the ground. The battlefield at Verdun made me wonder what would make a ordinary man, jump out of his trench and run towards a wall of bullets.

I invite you to a little tour through some of the photos I took…
